Start by asking whether it is one channel or all of them. One channel failing is a source problem you cannot fix. Everything failing is your login, your app or your network — and testing the same account on a phone using mobile data tells you which within thirty seconds.
Layer 1 — is it really everything?
Open three channels from three different groups before concluding anything.
| What happens | What it means | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| One channel fails, others fine | The source feed is down. | Report the channel name. Nothing on your device needs changing. |
| One whole group fails | A server or a category problem at the provider. | Report the group name. |
| Everything fails | Login, app or network. | Continue to layer 2. |
| Live works, on-demand does not | A separate server or a credential-type issue. | Check you are using an Xtream Codes login rather than a plain M3U link. |
Layer 2 — is it the device or the service?
One test settles this, and it is worth doing before anything else.
Install a player on your phone, enter the same credentials, and turn wifi off so it uses mobile data.
| Phone on mobile data | TV | Conclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Works | Fails | Your TV device or your home network. The service is fine. |
| Fails | Fails | The account or the provider. Go to layer 3. |
| Works | Works | Whatever it was has cleared — usually a session that has now timed out. |
This is the single most useful thing you can have set up in advance, which is why it is on the preventive list in the help centre.
Layer 3 — is the account live?
Paste your M3U URL into a browser. A file starting #EXTM3U means the account is working and the problem is elsewhere. Anything else is the account — how to read each response.
If the server is rejecting you outright, that is the same situation as a “failed to authorize” error, and that page's six causes apply.
Layer 4 — the fixes that resolve most total failures
In order. Change one thing at a time so you know which worked.
- Restart the streaming device. Unplug it for ten seconds — a genuine power cycle, not standby.
- Restart the router. Thirty seconds off. Wait for it to fully come back before testing.
- Remove and re-add the playlist. Not edit — remove, then add fresh.
- Clear the app's cache in your device's application settings.
- Try a different player app. If a second player works, the first one is the problem.
- Check your device's date and time. A clock that is wrong by hours breaks the secure connection to the server, and this failure looks like almost anything else.
A streaming stick that has been unplugged for weeks can come back with the wrong date, and every HTTPS connection then fails certificate validation. It presents as a generic connection error and nobody thinks to check it.
Specific symptoms
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Black screen, audio plays | Hardware decoding on an unsupported codec | Turn hardware decoding off in player settings |
| Channel list half loaded | App closed during the first load | Remove and re-add the playlist, then leave it alone |
| App opens then closes immediately | Memory pressure on a weak device | Restart the device; hide unused groups to shrink the list |
| Works on wifi, fails on ethernet (or reverse) | Router or DNS handling one path differently | Change DNS on the router, or test the other path |
| Everything fails after a provider change | Cached session | Remove the user, clear cache, add again |
| Stops after a few minutes every time | Connection dropping or a limit being hit | Buffering guide, then contact support |
Frequently asked questions
Why has my IPTV stopped working suddenly?
Most often an expired subscription, reissued credentials, or another device using your connection. Test the M3U link in a browser — it answers the question in ten seconds.
Why does one IPTV channel not work when the others do?
That channel's source feed is down. It is a provider-side issue; report the channel name rather than changing anything on your device.
Does restarting the router fix IPTV?
Often, yes — particularly after an ISP-side change. Restart the streaming device too, and give each a full power cycle rather than standby.
My IPTV works on my phone but not my TV. Why?
Then the service and account are fine, and the fault is the TV device, its app or your home network. Start with a power cycle and a re-added playlist.
